Going into my first year cycling without a pair of summer fingerless gloves, I thought I’d treat myself (mainly because I had a gift voucher to use).
So, armed with my £10 voucher, I searched Chain Reaction Cycles high and low for a decent pair of gloves.
I was originally drawn to the Mavic HC 2013 on looks alone. I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the aesthetics of the Mavic range. They were priced at £26.99 when I got them, but with my voucher they only cost me £17.
So when they arrived I was impressed. They looked great, fitted really nicely (I went for a large, I have quite thin but long hands). The padding on the palm feels good and correctly placed.  On closer inspection, there is some pretty poor workmanship. Nothing major, just some parts appear scruffy and like they won’t last too long.
However, so far they have held up well. Still looking and feeling great. But I guess the real test will be how they are looking in 6 months time (I’ll let you know).
I’m torn with my rating/conclusion on these gloves. At £27 I would probably say spend your money else where, there are plenty of other well built, good looking gloves around. But at £17, these are good gloves. £17 drops these gloves into the cheaper range available, and in that category they would excel, but in the mid-expensive range, there is probably a better alternative. Guess my concluding line would be; awesome looking and fitting gloves, but judged on the quality, slightly overpriced.
Update 09 June 2013
So now its the 9th of June and these gloves are rubbish! The gloves have stretched and lost their shape, developing holes and the padding is wearing thin. I am really disappointed with these. It is the last piece of Mavic clothing I will buy. I am very tempted to return them , because they werent cheap! Avoid.
